Sometimes, despite all efforts to bring firefighters home after a shift or a call, tragedy strikes. Line Of Duty Deaths bring devastation to families, departments, and communities. The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation (CFFF) focuses on making sure that our Fallen are never to be forgotten. They shall be honoured and remembered, and their families supported. Since the CFFF does not receive any grants or other forms of government funding, the Foundation solely relies on donated funds to maintain its programs.
In 2018, Northern Sunrise County Deputy Fire Chief Julien Bergeron took it upon himself to raise funds and awareness for the Foundation and created Northern Trek. Through different treks over the years, Julien has raised over $135,000 for the CFFF as of December 31, 2025. Northern Trek is the largest fundraiser for the CFFF in western Canada and the second largest in the country. Mile after mile, Julien has ran to ensure the CFFF programs can continue to operate.
Northern Trek 2026 will be a different adventure as it will take place on the water, in a kayak through 240km over 6 days.
